Tasting Notes
The 2014 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots will also require some patience. Revealing a pretty bouquet of wild berries, plum compote and flowers, it's fragrant and delicate on the nose, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pure and fine-grained palate built around a beautifully defined line of ripe acids. It's less dramatic and voluminous than the 2015 rendition, but it is similarly carrying a notable structural chassis—perhaps emphasized by the hail that impacted this vintage—that will require a decade of bottle age to melt away. About the producer
Domaine Michel Gaunoux is today run by Michel’s grandchildren, Anne and Alexandre, with a guiding hand from their mother. Everything here is extremely traditional, and the family has been quietly making rich, complex and age-worthy Pommard and Corton for over half a century.
