The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is immensely promising and will be well worth seeking out when the Gaunoux family finally decides to release it. Offering up a deep bouquet in which aromas of cherries, cassis and plums mingle with nuances of dark chocolate, licorice and cedar, it's a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with considerable amplitude and structure, underpinned by tangy acids. While the wine is already elegant and harmonious, its fine-grained but firm tannins are abundant: given the track record of Gaunoux's wines, I wouldn't expect this to show all its cards until its 20th birthday. Domaine Michel Gaunoux

Domaine Michel Gaunoux is today run by Michel’s grandchildren, Anne and Alexandre, with a guiding hand from their mother. Everything here is extremely traditional, and the family has been quietly making rich, complex and age-worthy Pommard and Corton for over half a century.
