Tasting Notes
The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is immensely promising and will be well worth seeking out when the Gaunoux family finally decides to release it. Offering up a deep bouquet in which aromas of cherries, cassis and plums mingle with nuances of dark chocolate, licorice and cedar, it's a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with considerable amplitude and structure, underpinned by tangy acids. While the wine is already elegant and harmonious, its fine-grained but firm tannins are abundant: given the track record of Gaunoux's wines, I wouldn't expect this to show all its cards until its 20th birthday. About the producer
Domaine Michel Gaunoux is today run by Michel’s grandchildren, Anne and Alexandre, with a guiding hand from their mother. Everything here is extremely traditional, and the family has been quietly making rich, complex and age-worthy Pommard and Corton for over half a century.
