Tasting Notes
The 2001 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is really beginning to hit its stride, unfurling in the glass with a captivating bouquet with aromas of red berries and darker fruits mingling with notions of forest floor, grilled meats, dark chocolate and cedar. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and sapid, with lovely depth and dimension, concluding with an extremely long finish where a touch of firm but fine-grained tannin asserts itself. This Grands Epenots is drinking beautifully today, especially with a decant, but Gaunoux's track record and the vintage's profile suggest it will continue to improve for another two decades. About the producer
Domaine Michel Gaunoux is today run by Michel’s grandchildren, Anne and Alexandre, with a guiding hand from their mother. Everything here is extremely traditional, and the family has been quietly making rich, complex and age-worthy Pommard and Corton for over half a century.
