2022 Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes

Tasting Notes
Raphet’s Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes comes from their oldest vines in the Grand Cru, with many over 100 years in age. The result is always a wine of impressive density and concentration – and especially in 2022. The wine is a little reductive at this stage, the dark berry fruit closed but present, with a hitn of something sweeter beneath. It’s intense and structured, a bold wine that offers incredible weight of brooding fruit, but with an iron, almost bloody note, at its heart.

More discreet wood sets off the ultra-fresh nose of various red berries, spice, newly turned earth and a similar hint of humus character. The old vines are in evidence on succulent and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of sappy dry extract that completely buffers the slightly firmer tannins shaping the lingering and firmly austere finale. Patience advised.
