Tasting Notes

Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2022

An elegant array of ripe black and red fruit notes – luscious blackberry, redcurrant, Santa Rosa plum – are supported by more savoury, spicy aromatics of liquorice, sandalwood and tea leaf. Fine-grained tannins spread evenly across the palate, while mouth-watering acidity lends energy. The palate becomes increasingly savoury as the finish persists, with added umami notes of oregano and tomato leaf. Highly complex, this is fantastic in 2022. Blend: 96.5% Merlot, 3.5% Cabernet Franc

The complex aromatic profile offers smoke, licorice, violets, cocoa, and a myriad of red and black plums. As good as the nose is, it's the sensuously-textured palate, with its waves of velvet-topped fruits that steal the show. The perfectly ripe, deep fruits provide length, lift, and complexity, with a lingering finish that keep you coming back for more. The wine blends 96.5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and .05 Petit Verdot. The harvest took place September 1 - September 19.

While this château normally produces one of the most perfumed, elegant, ethereal wines in the appellation, the 2022 Château La Fleur-Petrus is a powerhouse offering loads of ripe red and black fruits, leafy tobacco, chocolate, and spring flower-like aromas and flavors. These carry over to the palate, where the wine shows a touch more of its classic elegance and is full-bodied, has a seamless, layered mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish.

96.5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 0.5% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. Elegant and fresh with an impressive depth of fruit. A note of mint furthers the complexity. Refined texture, the tannins silky and long. Plenty of drive and energy. Persistent. Measured and spot on.
