2017 Bourgogne Rouge

Tasting Notes
Charles van Canneyt is the young vigneron at the helm of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat. With his wines in such high demand, it was only natural for Charles to want to increase production. However, the possibility of buying more vineyards is simply unfeasible for most local Burgundians. This has led to a recent trend in Burgundy – the rise of the micro-négoce – often born out of established domains. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Henri Boillot, Jean-Marie Fourrier and Méo-Camuzet, Charles Van Canneyt started his micro-négoce in 2012. Without doubt, all of Van Canneyt and Hudelot-Noëllat Premier and Grand Cru cuvees will rank among the most sought-after red wines of the year. Even with this entry-level cuvee, only 166 cases were bottled. This low level of production helps retain a wonderful purity even in this Bourgogne Rouge. Bursting with primary red cherry, and earthy raspberry fruit aromas. The palate has such vibrant crisp refreshing charm complimenting the juicy ripe red cherry and redcurrant compote flavours. The tannins light and silky and the wines texture impressively succulent at this entry level. This is our top Bourgogne Rouge pick of 2017.
