Tasting Notes
(from an impressive 1.2 ha parcel). Like the Etelois there is a top note of herbal tea to the wild red berry aromas that are also cut with hints of spice and earth. There is fine size, weight and richness to the medium weight and tautly muscular flavors that display plenty of stone character on the youthfully austere, serious and more obviously structured finale. In contrast to most of the prior wines, this will require some patience. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques was showing a little more reduction on the nose compared to the Estournelles St. Jacques, but it was still clear to see that this is a very different animal: broody and more austere. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly bolder tannin than the Estournelles, solid with impressive density, austere within the context of the vintage and in my opinion a true vin de garde. Therefore, park this down in the cellar for 5-7 years, at least. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2020-2035
Tasted blind, the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques also put in a terrific performance, bursting with notes of raspberries, peony, sweet forest floor and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is supple, medium to full-bodied and elegant, with wonderful purity, succulent acids and a long, fragrant finish. It's a classy, even subtle Lavaut Saint-Jacques, but there's plenty of sneaky substance here too. Oct 2018, www.robertparker.com
