Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Oct 2024

The Boillot family has owned the monopole vineyard Clos de la Mouchère for over 80 years – and the 2023 is the 40th vinified by Henri Boillot. The four-hectare walled vineyard sits within Les Perrières, facing southeast on limestone and clay soils, and generally produces a particularly honeyed expression of the mineral site. It has produced an exquisite wine in 2023 – shining in our tasting. The nose is a little shy currently, with chalky minerality and a creamy richness, but it leads onto a palate that is wonderfully luxurious. The fruit here is vivid and ripe, verging on opulent, yet shifting into tight, pithy citrus – keeping that generosity in check. It’s vibrant and lovely, silken, pure and elegant. The minerality drives the long finish, fading to leave the scent of orange blossom lingering on your tongue.

A fuller yellow here, and an extra degree of completeness, more weight and almost all the class. The oak is still at 50% new and is very well integrated. Gorgeously rich, with little fruits dancing through a meadow. Once again, I do see the magic of this. Henri was strongly advised by his father to look after “Madame de la Mouchère”.
