Tasting Notes
The 2020 Quinta da Leda offers an intoxicating nose. You can feel the baked heat of the terraced slopes from which it hails. Rich, juicy blackberry fruit, hints of kirsch and maraschino cherry sit alongside trademark Touriga Nacional violet perfume and subtle clove spice (from 50% new French oak). The palate offers a rush of mouth-watering freshness, contrasting with its fine yet gravelly tannins – with the plump bite of bramble fruit. It’s vibrant with a long, refined and nuanced finish that speaks of the wine’s class. Impressive, balance and with beautifully integrated 14% alcohol. It’s youthful but just about approachable now, will be even better with a couple of years in bottle, evolving over the next 10-15 years.

This is a stunningly serious wine with extraordinary class and detail. I wrote ‘utterly gobsmacking’ in my notebook – not words I often use. There is phenomenal balance, a stunning mid-palate, and epic length here, and this makes 2020 Leda the finest value £50 red wine on earth, not least if you want to drink a bottle now or in 30 years!
