Score 95/100 · Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jun 2024

Aged in 100% new Burgundian pièces, the 2022 Chardonnay Malans Unique spent nine months on the full lees before the bottling in September last year. The malolactic fermentation is not allowed here anymore except in cool vintages, which have become quite rare though. The 2022 opens with a dense and complex nose with ripe fruit aromas intertwined with fine sur lie, cracknel and noble Burgundy fruit with Malans terroir spices. Supple, elegant and complex on the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense and powerful, very long, saline and intense Chardonnay with spicy tannins and nice reduction. It's salivating and very complex on the promising finish. This is a great wine that is still on its way. 13.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in March 2024.
