Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

The 2023 Batailley has a spicy, black fruit bomb of a nose, the fruit complemented by graphite, a hint of smoke, savoury herbs and grilled meat. The palate is very classically proportioned, with structured tannins built around a core of pure blackcurrant fruit. Balanced and long, the finish is full of dark berries. This is lovely and true Batailley in style. A real success this year. Aged in 57% new oak. Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot

Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2023 Château Batailley offers a spicy, red and black-fruited, lead pencil-driven perfume to go with medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's nicely balanced, has some of the firmer tannins of the vintage, and has good length. It should be an outstanding wine when all is said and done.

Soft, round, ripe, creamy, vibrant, black, and red fruits are all over the place here, in the nose, and on the palate. The wine has character, soft, creamy tannins, and the ability to be enjoyed in its youth, but as it ages as well. The wine is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. 13.7% ABV.

Beautiful fruit with currants and blackberries, as well as notes of walnuts and chocolate. So much blackberry fruit here. Aromatic. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine tannins on the deep and structured palate. Racy and long finish. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot and 2% petit verdot.
