FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

Comte Liger Belair’s Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Aux Brûlées comes from a 0.11-hectare plot situated at the eastern end of the appellation, directly across the road from Leroy’s parcel. Tasted after Les Suchots, the 2022 Brûlées offers a fresher nose, partly due to a hint of reduction, but you can nevertheless see the underlying depth, concentration and richness of this cuvée. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, displaying an array of red fruit, while its delicate tannin structure gives it a sense of weightlessness. It unfurls beautifully on the palate, with acidity building up on the mid-palate and offering a beautiful, saline-driven finish. This is one of our favourite wines this year and certainly a pick in the Premier Cru range at Liger-Belair. Unfortunately, only 1.5 barrels were made in 2022 and the wine is not intended for commercial release.
