Tasting Notes

Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Jul 2023

Coming from one of the highest vineyards in Meursault with a southern exposure, this is rich and dense on the nose, but – as is a common theme in 2022 – has retained beautiful freshness on the palate. It’s quite fruit-driven at this stage, with hints of citrus on the mid-palate, good concentration and a long finish. This is showing very nicely and should be approachable before Les Perrières. The equivalent of six barrels was made, with two tonneaux (500 litres) that were new. The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

Here too there is smoky note suffusing the aromas of pear and apple compote, lemon rind and a similar array of pretty floral elements. There is even better mid-palate density to the utterly delicious and beautifully textured medium weight flavors that possess a highly seductive mouthfeel, all wrapped in a lingering, firm and equally well-balanced finale. More depth would be welcome but even so, this is already lovely. Drink 2030+

There is a generous ripe apple fruit with an edge of citrus to this wine, accents of fresh white flowers and marzipan and a firm saline mineral underpinning. The texture is rich, yet there is plenty of energy to carry this to a pleasantly long finish. The grapes are from one hectare of the Pernot family holdings, planted by Alvina's grandfather, Paul Pernot and replanted to Chardonnay in the 1990s. Although Blagny is not mentioned on the label, this is where the grapes are grown.

Pale colour, rather elegant on the nose though not demonstrative. Plenty of grip on the palate, a lime note behind the white fruit, extra energy, though still waiting to become a fully developed personality. Middleweight.
