Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Sep 2024

This is such a baby at the moment – and clearly needs time to reveal its full potential. It’s much more savoury than the 2020. There’s some gunflint reduction, but beneath that smoky intensity and an earthiness, alongside the subtle florals, bright redcurrant and raspberry. There’s more grip to the tannin, a tightness to the fruit, but the structure and length offer great promise. A wine of tension. Made with 20% whole-bunch fermentation, aged for 16 months in 34% new oak. Production: 3,409 bottles

Restrained, a subtle style of Pinot with aromas of red and dark fruits, floral notes with a hint of spice. Deliciously ripe with savoury complexity, woolly tannins and a persistent finish.

The 2021 Selección de Parcelas Los Primos Pinot Noir fermented with more full clusters, 20%, and had a little less new oak, 33% compared with the 2020, and the differences in the weather made this 2021 more vibrant, elegant and fresher than the 2020 from a warmer and drier year. It's floral, vibrant with red fruit and with very fine tannins, full development of flavors and aromas, with a purity they had not reached in previous vintages. They harvested a little later, but the wine kept a moderate 13.5% alcohol and a low pH of 3.39, denoting superb freshness. 2021 was also lower yielding because of frost, and they only produced 3,049 bottles. It was bottled in September 2022.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Selección de Parcelas Los Primos from Traiguén, Malleco, was 20% fermented with stems and aged for 15 months in French oak. The chemistry of this Pinot speaks for itself: a pH of 3.39 combined with 6.9g/L of tartaric acidity. Purple in the glass. The nose offers subtle notes of earth, sour cherry and hints of spice along with a rarefied musk from the aging process. In the mouth, it has a silky texture and a little delicate grip that enhances the profile channeling the freshness into the complex, nuanced, earthy finish.
