Tasting Notes

Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Oct 2022

This is an astounding wine for the price. Ethereal in colour and flavour, this is fine-boned yet with the typically Italianate dusty tannic structure – making this much more serious than most entry-level Chianti Classico. Pure cherry and plum fruit, with delicate floral tones, a herbal freshness and mouthwatering acidity, this is enchanting and long. Made with fruit from the first pass of the vineyard, it's 95% Sangiovese with 5% Canaiolo to make it more approachable in youth. It spends almost a year in old oak. While approachable now with food, it will be even better with a year or two in bottle.

The 2020 Chianti Classico is super-impressive. It's the sort of wine that needs time to come together, though, so readers should be in no rush. The purity of the fruit is really quite compelling. Dark cherry, plum, cedar, incense and licorice build nicely in a mid-weight Chianti Classico that hits all the right notes.
