A beautiful imperial purple, the nose needs teasing out because there are so many layers here, over and above the Caillerets. This wine makes me smile, laugh and almost cry at the same time. Pinpoint precision with such a wealth if multiple times red fruits and a sublime very long finish. Some youthful bitters Tasted: October 2021
The 2020 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has (yet another) beautifully defined bouquet with black cherries, briary, crushed stone and pressed iris petals, unfolding with each swirl of the glass. You could nose this all day! The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly sappy entry, quite dense, grippy and voluminous, tapering slightly towards a cohesive and quite elegant finish. Utterly refined.
