Tasting Notes
Intense blackberry and hawthorn flavours where you just know there is juice and character without going overboard. Not overly polished, not overoaked there is a lot to enjoy here, although a point of bitterness on the finish pulls things up a little short. Certified organic and biodynamic.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Haut Bergey strides out of the glass with notes of stewed black and red plums, baked blackberries and Morello cherries, plus touches of tar, unsmoked cigars and charcuterie with a touch of bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate has a pleasant chewiness and just enough freshness to frame the black fruit layers, finishing long and savory.
Lots of crushed stone and blackberry with some walnut and mushroom. Dried-earth undertone. Medium-to full-bodied with round, ripe tannins and a savory finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certification.
Full bottle 1,235 g. Cask sample taken way back on 2 April. 100% Sauvignon Blanc (even though there is 20% Smillon in the vineyard). Organic certification. Aged for a full 21 months in 400-litre barrels on lees. Extremely distinctive nose like it or loathe it. Lots of wildness here, and even something a bit like a Riesling Grosses Gewchs. I think it's great to have something outside the norm. Wild flowers and other wild flavours. I hope this is not to be too toned down before bottling. Really fascinating and extremely long. This doesn't seem to have suffered from having been taken so long ago from the barrel.
