Tasting Notes
The 2019 Le Volte has a lightly scented nose of raspberry, redcurrant and earthier savoury tones. Fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel and cement, the emphasis is firmly on the vibrant Bolgheri fruit. The palate is irresistibly juicy, with black cherry and forest fruit beautifully integrated with soft, velvet-like tannins. The purity is impressive at this price point, with layers of aniseed and violet notes adding complexity. With the acidity and tannins already melded, this has lovely early drinking appeal, but is balanced enough to enjoy over the next few years. Drink 2021-2025.

This is very Mediterranean in character with sage and rosemary to the blackberry and tar aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with medium, chewy tannins and a savory finish. Black-pepper undertones with cloves. Drink now.
An enjoyable and expressive third wine from Ornellaia that delivers herbal intensity and juicy, well-defined fruit flavours. Raspberry and blackcurrant meld with rustic Mediterranean herbs underpinned by bright acidity. Good sense of direction and poise, full-bodied with intensity but also pleasant to drink now.
First released through the Place in March 2021, this has softened since I last tasted it, and majors on richly textured raspberry puree, still with distinct fresh rosemary with a handful of dried herb spice and white pepper. There is a deft confidence to the delivery and this is very easy to love. No need to wait, although it will keep delivering for another to decade. Blending takes place a few months before bottling, with ageing in a mix of oak barrels and cement vats.
