Tasting Notes
L’Empreinte is a fascinating wine – a way, in Mickaël Haratyk’s words, to be “free of the dictature of one plot and one wine”. A blend of Domaine Joblot’s four red Premier Cru plots (Bois Chevaux, Cellier aux Moines, Clos de la Servoisine and Marole), it is remarkably intense. Mickaël describes it as “a little bit more” of everything – a description which is hard to argue with. There’s an immediate sense of power to this wine – the nose an alluring mélange of dark fruit, spice and florals. Tight and long, there’s almost a menthol lift and a redcurrant freshness. Mouth-filling and rich, the tannins build on the palate to offer a structure that needs time.

A moderately woody nose fights a bit with the ripe aromas of various purple fruit scents while trimmed in hints of earth, spice and exotic tea. There is terrific intensity and overt power to the solidly concentrated larger-scaled flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the sappy, very firm and austere finale. This is also clearly built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a few years of bottle age to both become more approachable as well as better integrate its generous wood treatment. With that said, this is very promising provided you have the patience to wait. Drink 2031+.
