Tasting Notes
The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape is a totally killer entry level wine that boasts tons of ripe black raspberry fruit, licorice, garrigue, incense and caramelized meat nuances in its rich, full-bodied, stacked personality. Made from 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvèdre, aged in older barrels and concrete tank, it’s a stunner to buy by the case.

Dark robe. The bouquet gives an enjoyable swirl of blackberry fruit and coulis, is engaging on its primary fruit. The palate offers delicious fruit with a sweet epicentre, and the tannins fit in extremely well, a gloved hand from them. This is classic, classy Châteauneuf with the charm and finesse of its place: the rest of the southern Rhône cannot offer this texture and stroking plumpness. A thread of saltiness is a subtle late contributor. STGT, spherical wine: enjoy! Sep 2016, www.drinkrhone.com, Drink: 2018-2034
Vivid ruby. Pungent red berry, cherry pit and lavender scents are sharpened by smoky mineral and peppery spice notes. Sappy and pliant in the mouth, offering ripe, spice-tinged raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors that blend richness and vivacity. Finishes taut, smoky and precise, displaying gentle tannic grip and resonating spiciness. Mar 2017, www.vinous.com
