Tasting Notes
From their newly acquired vineyard at the end of Felton Road in the Bannockburn district, this is an exquisitely composed pinot showing aromas of dark berry, game, truffle and cedar on the nose. The palate is equally stunning with superb fruit concentration and weight, enhanced by velvety texture and supple tannins. Youthful yet immediately appealing, this is destined to develop magnificently. A great addition to already a formidable range of pinots at Two Paddocks. This is the inaugural release of the new Bannockburn vineyard of Two Paddocks and their only single vineyard release for 2014. And judging from this, what a superb and very unique addition to Two Paddocks' already exciting pair of vineyards based in Gibbston and Alexandra! This has quite and earthy / gamey / savory nose with a core of warm raspberries, kirsch, roses and cloves with a waft of yeast extract. The light-bodied palate has lovely finesse and elegance and yet offers good intensity and persistence, with lovely ripe, fine-grained tannins and plenty of layers. Apart from all this, it is totally delicious! Apr 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2016-2024
Organic certification. Bannockburn - at the end of Felton Road. Cherry red. Intense, ripe, sweet cherry fruit. Rich, ripe and sweet-fruited on the palate too, with additional sweetness from the oak spice. Firm, chewy and compact. More power than many in this line of Central Otago Pinots and needs time. (from a vineyard at the end of Felton Road in the Cromwell basin; the only single-vineyard Pinot made here in 2014, and the first vintage for this bottling): Bright, dark red. Darker aromas of cassis, raspberry, flowers and musky spices, complicated by sexy soil tones. Sappy, spicy, floral and concentrated, offering lovely sweetness but also a distinctly savory character to its raspberry and fresh herb flavors, then firms up considerably on the lingering finish. Strong mineral energy leaves the mouth vibrating. This is built to age. May 2016, www.vinous.com, Drink: 2018-2024
