Tasting Notes
The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru was the last cru to be picked between 12-14 September at 22 hectoliters per hectare and when I tasted it in November, it had been racked due to a high level of reduction. Perhaps as no surprise, it took some coaxing from the glass. There is plenty of dark berry fruit, blackberry and raspberry leaf, plenty of sous-bois character—correct and quite linear. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin, a more structured Echézeaux than usual. Dark berry fruit, a hint of tea leaf, quite saline in the mouth with a crisp, quite penetrating finish that actually took me back. To me, this is an Echézeaux that will be damned if it is going to be eternally cited as the "lesser" of the domaine's vineyards and wants to make an impression. And it does. Don't be foolish enough to underestimate this. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2022-2045

(approximately 45+ year old vines from 2 different climats, 90% of which is in Les Poulaillères and the remainder is in Clos St. Denis). A wonderfully spicy, fresh and equally ripe nose blends together notes of plum, violet, plum, sandalwood and hoisin wisps. There is impressive richness to the seductively textured yet quite powerful full-bodied flavors that possess excellent density thanks to the abundant dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the firm but not rigid tannins on the mouth coating and strikingly long finish. This is built-to-age and like the Corton, this has made huge quality strides over the past few vintages. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
The Echezeaux was the last wine harvested in the 2015 vintage – but still on the cool side it seems. This is a big Echezeaux with plenty of stuffing. The nose offer red but predominantly darker fruits currently – notes of cassis, boysenberries and blueberries – the oak somewhat forward and a slight reduction. On the palate ample fruit – the fruit is juicy transparent and quite cool with a fine balancing freshness. It’s a quite velvet and rich wine .. this is a big Echezeaux in the making. After the more restrained Corton, the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti's 2015 Echezeaux Grand Cru bursts from the glass with a flamboyant bouquet of mulberry, black cherry, wood smoke and a lavish framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and intense, with a classically firm chassis of tannin and a lovely core of sappy, succulent fruit. This was the last of DRC's vineyards to be harvested, but despite its overtly ripe aromas and flavors, it retains superb acidity and focus and should amply reward cellaring. Cropped at 26 hectoliters per hectare and harvested September 12 and 14. Feb 2018, www.robertparker.com
About the producer

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or simply “DRC” is without doubt the most famous domaine in Burgundy and one of the most famous producers on earth. The Grand Cru vineyard from which it takes its name produces the world’s most expensive wine by a long margin.
