Tasting Notes
Leflaive is the largest holder of Clavoillon with a whopping 4.8 ha parcel that averages 40+ years of age. Relatively firm reduction knocks down the nose and about all that can be said is that the underlying fruit seems ripe. Otherwise the rich, generously proportioned, fleshy and full-bodied flavors are solidly concentrated and a bit more mineral-driven than usual while ending in an intense, attractively textured and impressively lingering finish. This stylish effort displays lovely balance and a fine sense of underlying tension and overall, this is notably more complex than it usually is at this early stage. The 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon had a slightly muted bouquet: flinty at first, straight-laced with just a touch of dewy green apple. The palate is fresh on the entry with a bright opening and then it hunkers down towards a more stony, precise, flinty finish. Understated perhaps, but there is good length here. The 2014 Domaine Leflaive Pulight-Montrachet is a very refined and elegant wine. The nose offer pure and crystaline white orchard fruits supported by a lovely citrus infused minerality. On the palate very delicate and detailed – offering plenty of length and intensity in a effortless and airy way. This is one of the best young Clavoillons I have tasted .. making the most of this magnificent vintage for the whiles … a beautiful and very refined wine. Can’t wait to taste some more 2014s from Leflaive. Aug 2016, www.winehog.org, Drink: 2024+
(tasted from tank, after fining): Bright, light yellow. Restrained aromas of lemon, minerals and flint. Juicy, lemony and brisk, with underlying minerality giving the broad mid-palate a light touch. Best today on the echoing, dusty finish, which really piques the taste buds. Sep 2016, www.vinous.com
