Tasting Notes
The 2007 Castello del Terriccio is another striking wine from Terriccio. It is naturally quite a bit more open than the two 2008s tasted alongside it because of the radiance of the year. Blackberries, spices, licorice, violets and tar are woven together in a seamless fabric of notable elegance and sheer class. The perception of tannin is barely noticeable. Readers will be tempted to drink the 2007 young, but my sense is that the wine is still at least a few years away from giving its all. The blend is 50% Syrah, 25% Petit Verdot and 25% other red grapes. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2027. ||Castello del Terriccio doesn’t seem to get a lot of love in the press these days, but the wines are stunning. This is a fabulous set of wines from proprietor Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana and consulting oenologist Carlo Ferrini. Wine Advocate.June, 2012
