2006 San Leonardo

Tasting Notes
Very dark, lustrous ruby. Mild but sophisticated nose. Lightly warm and toasty but no hint of oak. Very juicy and well balanced. Quite delicate with some fine grained tannins in evidence. Not a massive blockbuster but super-digestible. Lovely young wine. But needs cellaring. And needs a drinker not looking for mass. 13.5%. Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com

The 2006 San Leonardo boasts striking inner perfume, great purity and fabulous overall balance. A large, broad-shouldered red, the 2006 shows off layers of expressive dark fruit, grilled herbs, licorice and new leather, all supported by firm yet well-integrated tannins. The 2006 is impressive today, but it is built to last for decades. The flagship San Leonardo is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot aged in French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036. Antonio Galloni, eRobertParker.com
