Tasting Notes
Nuttier on the nose and a fuller, richer palate. Dry but long finish. All of the elegance but nicely developing, lovely weight.

Classic, subtly complex Champagne aromas of toast, toffee, citrus peel, and yeasty fresh apple. Rich, full and ripe, with great depth of flavor and truly insinuating intensity. Complex notes of butterscotch and toasted nuts. Ripe, harmonious acids give this remarkably smooth wine excellent backbone for further aging. Extremely long. I rated this wine 93(+?) a year ago, and it has certainly delivered on its early promise. A pinnacle of the '88 vintage. November 1999, http://vinous.com/
All wines from Pol Roger are extremely good in magnum, and actually even better on the rare occasions you find a mature jeroboam. The floral acacia notes and the refined aroma of passion fruit and orange blossom are accentuated at the same time the taste has an incomparable depth and a buoyancy. But I must admit that it was much too early to open this wine. You would probably have to wait ten more years before the nascent coffee notes and the dark, striking fruit have taken command. A mature Champagne that's developed subtle taste nuances yet remained lively. Posh texture plus ripe fruit and spice flavors that linger. October 1999, www.winespectator.com
