Baricci

The vineyards of Baricci are exclusively situated on the hill of Montosoli – the famed Cru situated to the north of the town of Montalcino.
The galestro rock terrain is made up of marl, shale and quartz combined with a calcareous clay paste. This soil is difficult to cultivate, but has exceptional drainage, giving finesse to the tannins and heightened aromatic complexity. They are the most delicate and ethereal wines of Montalcino. Baricci has six plots, all next to each other, creating a single vineyard totalling five hectares. The vineyards are south/south-east facing with vines that are up to 80 years old. Work is carried out throughout the year to avoid the use of herbicides, maintaining naturally healthy soils and vines.

Winemaking is very traditional at Baricci. Grapes are de-stemmed and macerated on their skins for around 20 days.
Fermentation is carried out under controlled temperatures. Following fermentation wines are aged in large Slovenian oak barrels ranging from 20 to 40 hectolitres in size.
The Brunello di Montalcino is aged for 36 months, while the Rosso spends just 12 months in barrel prior to bottling. Total production is around 30,000 bottles – 12,000 bottles of Brunello and 18,000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino.
