Tasting Notes
Duroché’s 2023 Lavaut-Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes is another step up – rightfully earning its place in the line-up between two Grands Crus (after Charmes-Chambertin and before Latricières). It sits comfortably next to these two wines, with a mesmerising elegance and profound nose. This is a strong contender for Premier Cru of the vintage. The 2023 vintage is the 100-year anniversary of the planting of those old vines, and this will be bottled under a celebratory label paying tribute to the historic labels used at the domaine. On the palate, the tannin structure is so subtle, with that weightless feeling – but you can see the underlying richness and depth, all laced around that core of freshness and salinity. This is one of those wines that has everything that you want and lingers for minutes. With just four barrels produced, this will benefit a few years’ cellaring to show its full potential. Drink from 2030.

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes ler Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet with hints of dark berry fruit, pencil bax and tobacco. It's a little more introverted compared to the 2022 last year. The palate is very well defined with supple tannins, a millefeuille of lightly spiced red fruit and a lingering peppery finish. It has a little more presence and precision than the regular cuvée. This is superb.
