Tasting Notes
Aged in 20% old oak, this is a very special wine – steely, pure and powerful. It makes you gasp with its saline, oystershell intensity – a wine that wooshes across the palate with its thrilling minerality. There’s a savoury, leesy edge and lushness too, making it approachable even now – despite its drive and length.

The 2023 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from two plots in Chapelot and one in Montée de Tonnerre itself. It has a refined bouquet with a mixture of white and yellow fruit, fine mineralité and focus. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid entry, just a hint of white peach and almond. Still, it is very tensile and citric on the finish. Excellent.
From two domaine plots, planted in 1971 and 1976. Clean pale yellow with a powerful bouquet, classic Montée de Tonnerre. The concentration is really impressive, not too exotic. Rather buttery at the finish, though then the minerals return. A question of time Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted Jun 2024.
