Tasting Notes
In 2021, Henri-Bruno de Coincy picked his plots on 2nd October and was typically gentle in his approach. There was no chaptalisation or saignée here, just a cold soak and 15-day maceration before barrel (a third new). It’s another stunning result – and there are a minute 750 cases for the world. A mere 13% alcohol, it is elegant and enchanting – a wine of extraordinary delicacy and purity. The nose is dainty, with a crushed rock minerality alongside pretty floral lift (a signature of the finest wines this year). The fruit here is bright, red and crunchy – but with no sign of greenness. Fine-boned but not in any way lacking, this is a beautiful style of Pomerol, as we’ve come to expect of this small but perfectly formed estate. Blend: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc
About the producer
Tucked away in Pomerol’s southwest corner Ch. Belle-Brise is the ultimate insider’s Bordeaux. With just two hectares of walled garden vineyard, production at this estate is minuscule, making it one of the rarest wines in the marketplace (and arguably more exclusive than either Pétrus or Le Pin).
