Tasting Notes
Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Lavrottes is perfectly situated directly under the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. What makes it special is a high concentration of flint in the subsoil, which brings great minerality and a bit of power to what is otherwise quintessential Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru. It is named after the flint slabs (laves) used on the region’s sloping rooves. While the site is split between just three owners, Charles van Canneyt – of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat – is connected enough to source his own bottling. In 2020, the wine has an elegant, refreshing, rose-petal bouquet, with additional mint, cherry and raspberry aromas that leap out of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with great finesse, well-balanced with round and gentle tannins. There is great fruit purity here, the raspberry notes are mouth-watering and provide a lovely juiciness to the mid-palate. There is really good tension here. This is still young and will need a decade to reach its full potential.
