Tasting Notes
Former Chivas Brothers Master Blender Colin Scott came out of retirement to blend this special 50-year-old Scotch. It is the first in-house creation from the Sazerac-owned remarkable spirits curators. Scott had his pick of the Last Drop’s remarkable maturing malt and grain inventory of ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks. It is unexpectantly vibrant for its significant age, bursting with peach, maraschino cherry and green banana lifted further by fragrant magnolia and lemon peel. The complexity comes in waves, indicating the exceptional expressiveness: luscious apple strudel, along with honeycomb, blackcurrant jam, and hints of an oaky toastiness, too. Incredibly creamy and immediately mouth-filling, with a gentle pepper heat and whisper of smoke building an extraordinary complexity from the fruit-forward nose. Liquorice, green tea, toffee and toasted marshmallows, along with a rich leather rancio note, keep building over time. The finish is incredibly long with more of that gentle warmth, rounded off with sweet cinnamon spice and a lingering raisin fruitiness.
