When Douglas Laing & Co released this 40-year-old Port Ellen in 2020 it was the oldest independent bottling from the Islay distillery. It was a special moment for the family-owned bottler as Port Ellen was founder Fred Douglas Laing’s favourite whisky. Bottled at cask strength, this rare and antique whisky was distilled in December 1979 and matured for 40 years in a single refill butt. Each bottle is hand-signed by Fred’s son and granddaughter who are respectively now Chairman and Director of Whisky.
