FINE+RARE, Feb 2020

With the market awakening to the wonders of aged single grain whisky, I’m excited to present the oldest ever commercial release from the Scottish Grain Whisky distillery North British, ‘The Incorporation Edition’ 1960 58 Year Old. North British waited 133 years to put its name on a label for the first time, so you can imagine that this 1960 58 Year Old will be nothing short of exceptional. This landmark release of only 222 bottles is a collaboration between independent Scotch Whisky specialist Douglas Laing & Co and Edinburgh based grain distillery North British. It is named ‘The Incorporation Edition’ to commemorate the historic distillery's incorporation on 24th October 1885. There is rumoured to be a second (potentially even older) release in the offing, which will form a pair of exquisitely aged single grain whiskies, showing the level of confidence in this category. Jim Murray is a vocal supporter, commenting “the ones that connoisseurs die for are the older versions, usually special independent bottlings displaying great age”. After tasting this astonishing 58 year old, I can attest to the incredibly complex dram it has become, bursting with butterscotch, caramelised pineapple, toasted oak and sweet spices. This is one of the most delicious and approachable whiskies you could ever have the fortune to taste. An exceptional whisky and release, that will be popular with drinkers and collectors alike, we are therefore delighted to have an allocation available direct from Douglas Laing & Co.
