Tasting Notes
This week I received our direct allocation of the fifth instalment in the Benromach Heritage series – 1978 Benromach 40 Year Old. Demand has been exceptionally high for past releases from the range which showcases some of the final casks laid down before the distillery closed its doors in 1983. Thankfully the closure was short-lived, with the purchase and reopening of Benromach distillery in 1998 by one of the leading names in Scotch whisky, Gordon & MacPhail. With over 123 years of experience in selecting and bottling casks, the expertise and influence of the new owners is evident. 2018 marks the 20th anniversary since its reopening and Benromach has cemented its reputation as one of Speyside’s finest distilleries, offering exceptional liquid at prices representing some of the best value for money on the market. Previous vintages in the series have scored very highly with critics, which will undoubtedly make this a highly sought-after and collectable release. This beautiful bottle is one of only 184 coming from one precious cask, number 2608.
