FINE+RARE, Oct 2018

Tomatin Distillery has quickly become a favourite of mine (as well as many F+R customers) as a result of the distillery's decision to refocus their efforts on distillery-bottled single malt expressions. This latest expression is sure to be another runaway success, displaying the Tomatin house style of a lighter Highland malt, with a touch of fruitiness and freshness alongside a spicy character. All bottles within Batch 1 are individually numbered, with a limited release of just 3,000 bottles. So whether your focus is drinking or collecting, it will be fascinating to compare how this first batch and subsequent ones differ - although I expect all to show incredible balance and maturity. The Tomatin 30 Year Old is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon (75%) and traditional oak casks (25%), resulting in "fresh aromas of fruits, honey and white chocolate with an elegantly rich and creamy finish". It is an outstanding example of Scotch whisky, and one of the most enjoyable malts I have tried in the last few months. With the whisky market continuing to grow, I cannot see a whisky of this quality remaining at such a competitive price for very long, making this the perfect time to add a bottle to your collection...

Tomatin

Founded in 1897, Highland distillery Tomatin has swelled and shrunk during subsequent whisky booms and busts. Its approachable, light, unpeated style was so popular in blends that Tomatin became the largest malt distillery in Scotland.
