Tasting Notes
The wines of Gevrey are superb in 2016, classically styled and regal, but with an approachability even from barrel that makes them sensational to taste and drink. They are wonderful across the classifications and at Grand Cru level simply incredible, absolutely wonderful expressions of their revered terroirs. Van Canneyt’s is among the finest we tried; elegant, focused and pure, this is a magnificent Charmes that will offer those lucky enough to have it in the cellar years of sublime drinking. A lifted, perfumed nose, floral, almonds, cloves and a touch of kirsch. Delicate red fruit disguises serious depth and power while lush tannins frame them beautifully. A stony, mineral quality adds real focus and intensity through the mid-palate until a long finish unfurls majestically. Give this a few years and it will be spectacular.
