Founder Anne Colgin had been looking for suitable mountainside Napa fruit that she could source to produce her own wine since 1988. In 1992 she discovered the Herb Lamb vineyard, a rocky hillside site on Howell Mountain in the St. Helena AVA of Napa Valley. After reaching an agreement with the vineyard owner that same year, Colgin was allocated the top seven rows of vines to source her fruit.
