Tesseron: Master Blender of ancient Cognac

Tesseron specialise in very old Cognac: XO and beyond: Abel Tesseron created Maison Tesseron Cognac House in 1905 and immediately went to work sourcing the finest and oldest eau-de-vie he could find. The idea was simple: to be able to offer fine, rare and very old cognac to the people of the world.

Main content

For decades Tesseron distilled, aged and blended cognacs and sold to the bigger houses, which would use the extra old cognac to complete their blends. While Cognac Tesseron played a starring role in these blends, it was little known outside of the region.

In 2003, the family made the decision to bottle their cognac and sell it under the family name for the first time, quickly receiving high praise from critics and consumers alike, even earning a perfect 100 Parker Points (the only cognac do ever do so).

Boutique 100% hand-crafted cognac

Tesseron has always been and remains a family business, which includes not just the owners but the technical team too. The master blender ‘Maitre de Chai’ role has been performed by a father and son team over the years, with the elder teaching the younger generation the skills acquired over a lifetime of blending cognacs.

The estate has been family owned and run since 1905. The current president, 3rd generation Alfred Tesseron, is supported by the 4th generation of the family – his niece Melanie manages the Maison and is also integrally involved in managing the family’s 5th Growth Bordeaux Chateau, Pontet Canet. Alfred’s daughter Justine and son Noé Tesseron are helping grow and develop the family’s brand. Tesseron is their history and legacy, every decision they make is mindful of the work put in by their family before and with an eye on the future.

Every step of the process is overseen and carried out by the small team at the Maison, from the growing of the grapes through to bottling. This allows greater attention to detail throughout the process. The ability to fine-tune the process at all stages of production, and an intimate understanding of the desired end product, sets Tesseron apart.

Their cellars hold some of the oldest Cognac in the world

Ancient Reserves of Cognac: Perhaps the most special quality of Tesseron cognacs is that they are aged well beyond the industry average, with everything they produce being “XO & Beyond”. This is possible because of their large stock holding of very old cognac, housed in the beautiful family cellars that were once a 12th century crypt. At Tesseron the cognac is not measured in years, but rather in generations.

Tesseron visit Fine + Rare

We were lucky enough to welcome Noé Tesseron to our offices and taste through the Classic Range, and get his opinion on what makes Tesseron special.

This was an amazing opportunity to taste with a member of the family and find out more about their history. We thank Noé for his time and expertise.
