Tasting Notes
The 2019 Seleccion de Parcelas Chardonnay is arguably the estate’s best wine to date. It has a lovely fragrant, white-flower scent with subtle peppery spice and praline aromas. On the palate, it is rich and succulent. There is an impressive mid-palate generosity while remaining firmly in the citric fruit spectrum. The 38% new French oak adds textural complexity and subtle, toasted spice notes – beautifully integrated with the primary fruit. This has great poise and a long sustained finish. This is energised Chardonnay with great flair. Just 240 cases made.
The Selección de Parcelas are the top bottlings from Baettig. The wine is barrel-fermented and aged for 14-15 months in oak. Compared to Los Parientes, at three years of age, the wine shows less development in bottle. The peppery spice from the oak along with the textural layering on the palate gives the wine a great mouthfeel. It is rich and concentrated, but still has plenty of tension and a refreshing mineral salinity on the finish.

The 2019 Chardonnay Baettig Selección de Parcelas Los Primos hails from Traiguén, Malleco, and was aged for 16 months in 400-liter French barrels, 38% new. Attractive bright yellow in color. The core of the complex, enticing nose consists of ginger, lemon peel and green apple plus hints of nougat, acacia and hazelnut. In the mouth it is both silky and elegant, with a vibrant acidity that channels the palate and elongates the delicate finish. A masterfully made wine from Francisco Baettig.
This is really aromatic with sliced apple, pear, nougat, straw and stone. Full-bodied with a creamy texture and lovely apple, honey and straw at the finish. Drink or hold.
In the space of only four vintages. Seleccion de Parcelas has established itself as one of the best Chardonnays in Chile. Sourced from volcanic soils in Traiguen, this was fermented with wild yests in a combination of older and 38% new barrels. It is nutty, stony and very refreshing with added texture from 35% malolactic fermentation, subtle reduction, good weight and a long, bracing, citrus-driven finish.
