FINE+RARE

This is handsomely austere on the nose at first – very mineral, with subtle and elegant citrus fruit and white flowers. It warms up and softens with air, revealing hints of sweeter vanilla and baked bread, revealing the judicious oak. The racy acidity and superb tension lend it great energy. This is classic and elegant, yet with a real sense of place thanks to the cool, juicy fruit and mineral line. Lovely

FINE+RARE, Sep 2022

The 2019 Los Parientes Chardonnay is starting to show the first signs of development with honeyed, citrus aromas and dried fruit tones. The palate remains clean and taut, very fresh with lime fruit flavours and structurally vertical in style. There is a contrasting mix of sweet, honeyed fruit and sharp acidity on the finish.

The 2019 Chardonnay Baettig Vino de Viñedo Los Parientes, from Malleco, Traiguén, was aged for 11 months in 400-liter French barrels, 16% new. Yellow with a golden sheen. The nose delivers green apple, yeast, pear zest, linden blossom and acacia over a bed of almonds. Slightly austere in the mouth, it is linear and well-packaged, with a heightened, vibrant acidity (pH 3) that combines deliciously with the texture.

Shows plenty of opulence and depth with dried apples, pears, honey and some lemons. Apple pie, too. Full-bodied and layered with beautiful intensity and flavor. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Vino de Viñedo Los Parientes Chardonnay was produced with fruit from the Los Suizos vineyard in Traiguén, aiming for freshness and intensity. It's produced in a similar way as the top Chardonnay—wild fermentation in barriques and an élevage in 225- and 400-liter French oak barrels (16% of them new) for 11 months. This is a little riper, with 13.5% alcohol but keeping the high acidity. 2019 was a little warmer, but the wine keeps its poise, and there is no room for any exuberance here. It has serious notes of white peach and is a little nutty, without any tropical feelings whatsoever, but it's more floral and gentler than the Los Primos, trying to make it a little more approachable and easy to understand. The palate is sharp, textured and serious with a dry finish. What I like is that the wine feels very Chilean, something I cannot explain easily, but somehow you'd never confuse this with a Burgundy. It has an elegant profile. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2020.”
