Average Score 95.0

Nose: Thinks about heading into fruitcake territory but hangs back: the sherry is just a little too clean, the vanillas a little too sweet... it opts for a trifle, instead...: complex, almost perfectly weighted and a reminder of what a real, untainted sherry butt should smell like. Taste: No spring chicken for sure, but somehow the grape feels as though its juices first flowed only yesterday. The oak, though, does underscore the age with an impressive array of dry toasty notes with hazelnut puree. Remarkably, the barley remains fresh and intact. Finish: Dries accordingly to the rules with a vague molasses note to the starchy vanillas; a buttery edge offers a degree of oil. Overall balance and complexity: Longmorn has long been a staple of Gordon & MacPhail. Here you can see exactly why. 2014 Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible
