The rich and lawish fruit of the 2015 vintage is the perfect platform for a great La Romanee. The Bouquet is bursting with multiple layers of red coulis fruit, Violets, peony rose and oriental spices all invigorated by the filigree and intense minerality of this refined terroir. On the palate very generous and extravagant red berry fruit – held in a firm grip by the powerful minerality. The fruit is fresh and vibrant and driven by the acidity infused minerality into the impressively long and intense finish. Love the cool and vibrant fruit – the focused generosity .. I’m really lost for words – what a wine! Jun 2016,
The 2015 La Romanée Grand Cru has a deep color. The bouquet had just a touch of reduction that just took a few swirls of the glass to shake off. Underneath lies extraordinarily pure cranberry, raspberry and morello cherry aromas struck through with intense mineral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, extremely well-judged acidity, a subtle marine influence (oyster shell) that becomes more prominent towards the finish. There is great frisson here, and it lingers very long in the mouth, leaving the tongue tingling long after the wine has departed. It should land at the top of my banded score once in bottle. Reduction. In the mouth however it’s immediately evident that this is just at another level with its sleek, refined and powerful yet restrained medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the intense, palate coating and massively long finish that is incredibly refined and graceful. As good as the Ech and the Clos de Vougeot are, and they are indeed excellent, the 2015 La Romanée quite simply outclasses them. A genuine ‘wow’ wine that is very much built-to-age and is going to need it. Dec 2016,
