France Cognac.jpg

Cognac is a brandy produced in the Charentes area of southwestern France, just north of Bordeaux. The area is divided into 6 different sub sections and the best Cognac vineyards are centred around the historic town from which it takes its name. Those who both vinify and sell are in the minority; the area is mostly filed with smaller growers who then sell to the larger houses like Hennessey. The quality of the Cognac is denoted by a tier: VS, VSOP, or for the very best Cognacs a mark of XO is given.
