2014 Coteaux du Languedoc Tete de Belier Blanc Chateau Puech-Haut

The 2014 Tête de Bélier Blanc from Château Puech-Haut is "another high class white from this estate" in Languedoc. It has been upscored by Wine Advocate's Jeb Dunnuck from 91-93 points to 94 points, making it exceptionally good value.

Jancis Robinson says that Château Puech-Haut punches "well above average Languedoc weight" and Jeb Dunnuck calls it one of his favourite estates from the South of France, noting that 2014 was "a solid vintage for the estate, and this region of the Languedoc."

For those not familiar with this estate just outside Saint Drézéry, its big game hunting, cigar-smoking owner Gérard Bru has employed a stellar line-up of consultants, including Claude Gros (who has worked with La Fleur Morange), Philippe Cambié (former rugby star, Rhône legend and Robert Parker's Oenologist of the Year 2010) and of course the world famous Michel Rolland.

Jeb Dunnuck says the 2014 - a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier that spends around 8 months in oak on the lees - tastes like it's "on steroids", describing it as "a full-bodied, richly textured, balanced and always fresh and lively white." With the team behind it, its enormous points to price ratio this is an intriguing opportunity...

The 2014 Languedoc Saint Drezery Tete de Belier Blanc tastes just like the Cuvee Prestige Blanc, yet on steroids. Ripe peach, brioche, pineapple and hints of oak all flow to a full-bodied, richly textured, balanced and always fresh and lively white ideal for drinking with a meal over the coming 3-4 years.
