The Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2015 is taking it to another level of refinement. The nose offers juicy red and darker fruits, a lovely spiciness and a very fine view to the earthy minerality. On the palate, focused, pure and vibrant for the vintage. Impressive intensity yet it’s paired with an effortless lightness … a truly magnificent Clos de Vougeot in the making. Mar 2016, www.winehog.org, Drink: 2035+
Dark red with ruby tones. Penetrating aromas and flavors of black cherry and minerals. Wonderfully creamy and deep but with a compelling juiciness to leaven its velvety sweetness. Utterly mouthcoating thickness here as well as outstanding spicy depth and impeccable balance. Finishes with powerful tannins and great persistence. And bone-dry in spite of its strong impression of sucrosité. This will age for a long time. Labet described this wine as "like drinking through a funnel: we feel the pressure but it's coming through a small hole." Jan 2017, www.vinous.com
(from vines that were planted in 1910). This is aromatically similar to the regular cuvée but there is notably more concentration, power and dry extract that pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the hugely long, palate coating and driving finish. This is a manifestly old school Clos de Vougeot that is not only very much built-to-age but is going to require lots of it. In a word, excellent. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
