At this point in the evolution of the '99 Bèze in magnum, it has already begun to separate from the same wine in 750 ml format, which is about right as it often requires on the order of ten years before notable differences are evident. As such, I repeat the review from 750 ml format here though with a definite bump up in terms of initial drinkability. Fantastically complex with super dense, concentrated fruit blended with an incredible array of spices and flavors that have really beautiful depth, complexity and length. This is not a particularly huge wine but the sheer complexity and class combine to create a simply knock out Chambertin, worthy of every accolade reserved for the very best in Burgundy. Really lovely stuff in a forward style though this will be capable of aging for years. Allen Meadows, Burghound Mar08,2008
The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Chambertin Clos de Beze has a beguiling perfume of red cherry and violet. It is medium to full-bodied, elegant, and unctuously textured. This juicy, sweet red cherry, currant, and raspberry-flavored wine has impeccably ripened tannins detectable in its exceptionally long and delineated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012.
