Despite having followed the wines of Xavier Vins – the pet project of one of the Rhône Valley’s most talented winemakers, Xavier Vignon – for a number of years, we are still shocked by the incredible value for money on offer here. We are therefore proud to offer a pair of incredible wines that are according to Wine Advocate’s Jeb Dunnuck a treasure trove for the savvy buyer

The latest release of Xavier’s multi-vintage Châteauneuf-du-Pape is La Reserve X XII XV; a 95+ point scorer hailing from three exceptional vintages: 2010, 2012 and 2015. Jeb Dunnuck praises this “unctuous beauty”, declaring simply: what a wine! He notes that “It will take 5-7 years for the baby fat to fall away, and it will have two decades of longevity.” But while you wait you can be drinking its little brother…

Xavier’s Côtes du Rhône S.M. received 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck, who called it “gorgeous on all counts, a shockingly good Côtes du Rhône”. Another multi-vintage blend, this time from 2010, 2011 and 2012, this is made from 50% Syrah from Northern Rhône and 50% Grenache from Southern Rhône. Xavier had to declassify it to Cotes du Rhône, keeping the price almost unbelievably low for what it is.

As Dunnuck concludes, Xavier Vins “obviously have access to some serious vineyards, and the winemaking is impeccable.” Having tried these wine several times in the office, we fully concur with the quality of the winemaking, and when you consider that Xavier works with the likes of Raymond Usseglio, Le Nerthe, Marcoux and Grand Veneur, these wines undoubtedly come from some of the Rhône’s top sites…
