With 97+ points, Taittinger’s 2006 Comtes de Champagne offers “the single best value… in tête de cuvée Champagne” according to Galloni. Even in the face of very strong competition from some of the best on the market, this is a genuine stand-out and perhaps the shrewdest buy of the vintage.
Galloni calls it “a hypothetical blend of 2002 and 2004” vintages - huge praise considering that he rates the 2002 as one of the greatest Champagnes ever made. Taittinger’s prestige cuvée, the Comtes de Champagne is one of the most elegant and stylish produced.
Made entirely from Chardonnay sourced from 6 Grand Cru sites in the Côte des Blancs, this cuvée is only produced when the harvest is of exceptional quality and the 2006 is another absolute superstar.
We’ve tasted it ourselves and absolutely loved it, but are happy to leave the last word to Galloni: “I suggest buying a case… which is exactly what I intend to do”. Given how much wine he must taste and not buy, this seems like the strongest endorsement possible...
