High Quality    ·    Boutique     ·    Ready-To-Drink

Showcase was designed with one aim in mind: to combine six excellent wines, in the prime of their drinking window, in a single case. With no other merchant in the UK offering a collection case of this level, Showcase presents an unparalleled opportunity to taste some great wines that are usually all but impossible to acquire in single bottles.

THE WINES

This case is a celebration of Italy's hidden gems. From Soave to Sicily, it is a snapshot of the incredible quality and value that is to be found outside of Italy's most famous regions. With superb scores of up to 98 points, these incredible wines perfectly display the rewards waiting for those stepping off the beaten track:

2014 Salicutti Rosso di Montalcino - As yet unscored, but a complete stand-out pick from our last trip to Italy

Salicutti Rosso Montalcino Wine Red Italian Italy Showcase Fine Rare

2014 Salicutti Rosso di Montalcino
Salicutti's Rosso is widely regarded to be one of the very best in existence. Its grapes come exclusively from their Sorgente vineyard. While many producers use younger vines or less desirable grapes to make their Rosso, Salicutti's hails from a prime site, with results that are evident in the glass. The '14 has yet to be scored but previous vintages have earned scores of up to 96 points from Galloni, who has previously called it "a wine of nearly indescribable finesse."

2016 Prà Soave Classico Otto
Described by Ian D'Agata of Vinous as "fresh, flavourful and also great value", this is an excellent wine. It is a classic Soave from Graziano Prà, a master producer who has played a key role in revitalising Soave and putting it on the fine wine map. According to Galloni, "Prà remains under the radar and deserving of wider recognition". This stunning 2016 is certainly a great place to start.

2013 Cusumano Sagana Nero d'Avola
Monica Larner gave this wine 92+ points calling it "full and voluptuous". It is 100% Nero d'Avola, aged in large oak casks for 12 months, and hails from the Tenuta San Giacomo single vineyard with white limestone soils. This, in the words of Larner, "is Nero d'Avola's favorite growing environment" and results in "great intensity and complexity - something that is not always easy to pull off with this variety." Superb.

2012 Argiolas Senes Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva
Ian D'Agata gave this 93 points, calling it "a knockout, very big and showy wine but remarkably fresh and vibrant." Principally made of Cannonau, with a small proportion of Carignano and Bovale Sardo in the blend, this wine is aged for around twelve months in used barriques, before moving to cement vats, accentuating its innate vibrancy and clarity. A rich, lively fireracker.

2012 Valdonica Vermentino Ballarino
This blew the tasters at Decanter Magazine away when they tried it last year. Describing it as "nicely developed and pure to the last", they awarded it a stunning 98 points in their World Wine Awards and a level of "Platinum". Jancis Robinson was similarly effusive in her assessment, writing: "Good stuff. Great pure fruit in the middle. Well done!". A beautifully made white and a real highlight of Showcase #3.

2008 Bisceglia Gudarra Aglianico del Vulture Riserva
Italian wine expert Monica Larner was unequivocal in her praise of this riserva, giving it 95 points and calling it "a little masterpiece from my favourite underdog Italian region" as well as "an ambitious achievement...that delivers long lasting satisfaction." This is certainly appropriate, given that the wine's name "Gudarrà" means "to be enjoyed" in the area's local dialect.
